Feature on The Nod - Playing the Race Card

October 31, 2017

This fall, I taught an "Inequality in the U.S." course here at CC. As part of a redesign of the course. I thought about ways in which I could really get students to think critically about race. Specifically, what is Blackness? What is Whiteness? And how do these things change across time and space. So I decided to employ a new game in the classroom called Trading Races. My classroom of largely white students had to argue, "Who's Blacker? Lil' Kim or Sojourner Truth?" Want to know more? Check out the full story on The Nod, a podcast about Black culture: Playing the Race Card. Also, check out the feature on CC's website: 'Trading Races' Opens Doors to Conversation in Inequality Class.
